Volunteers Celebrate 80th Anniversary

New Eyes’ volunteers — present and past — celebrated 80 years of improving the vision of people in need on December 7 at an anniversary breakfast at the Short Hills Club.

Guests of honor included past presidents of the organization: Leigh Gifford, 1956-57; Ann Humphrey, 1975-77; Joan Daeschler, 1983-84 and 1993-95; Patricia McGinley, 1990-92; and Cathy Herbst, 1995-97. Ann and Joan continue to serve New Eyes as assistant treasurer and overseas shipment coordinator, respectively.

Dottie Marshall of Short Hills and Mary Ann Visocchi of Summit were honored for their 10 years of service by Marianne Busby, vice president of New Eyes’ Board of Trustees.

New Eyes is fortunate to have 250 adult and student volunteers on its team. Volunteers provide administrative support; acknowledge donations; handle publicity mailings; sort and test eyeglasses; and manage the Fabulous Finds Jewelry & Giftware Boutique.
