Providing Glasses Overseas Who Sends Us the Glasses?
In 2009-10, 300,000 pairs of eyeglasses were sent to New Eyes for the Needy from thousands of caring individuals, civic organizations, businesses and opticians. Each donor has a different story to tell.
Liam collected 413 pairs of glasses and 12 pairs of lenses for his Bar Mitzvah project.
The Millburn Lions Club maintained several metal collection boxes. For the First Baptist Church in California, "Gathering the glasses is now an ongoing project with special emphasis at Vacation Bible School time. We realize how much good they can do."
Hudson Group recently donated 30,000 pairs of sunglasses and reading glasses to New Eyes for the Needy’s overseas eyeglass recycling program. Pictured in the New Eyes’ mailroom (l. to r.) are Rick Dolansky and Erick Dolansky, who donated their time and a truck to transport 60 cartons from Hudson Group’s warehouse in Elizabeth to Short Hills; and New Eyes’ Trustee John J. “Jake” Dalton, who supervises the recycling program at New Eyes.
